how the acai berry is harvested

The Acai Berry is grown in the Brazilian Rain Forest on a tree that is called the Acai Palm. Twice a year these trees become filled with many grape sized berries called the Acai Berry. These berries have been eaten by the natives of the area for many years, but has just recently became very popular in other parts of the world. In the past one person would climb up the tall tree and cut down the branches to get the Acai Berries. Now there are villages of many people that work together to mass produce the Acai Berry.

This berry has a very short life span of only twenty four hours.Because of its extremely short life span it must be harvested as fast as possible and sent by boat to local markets, as well as processing plants that work quickly to be processed before they are no longer good. This is one of the reasons why the Acai Berry can not be found in local grocery stores.
